Written Book Review
Schizandra and the Gates of Mu is a fun tale that really pulled me in. It’s set in Sedona, Arizona and uses the location’s “spiritual woo-woo” energy to create a compelling story.
The characters are lovable and they weave a story of intrigue, dropping hints about recent world events and upcoming changes taking place. The year 2012, the Mayans, Atlantis, and a number of other unexplained mysteries are added to the mix.
Schizandra and the Gates of Mu was one of the most creative and imaginative stories I’ve read in a long time. One of the flaws of the book is that it feels like it’s just a prelude of what’s coming next. I was really left wanting to find out what happens to the slightly oddball gang of characters, that had become my friends.
I should mention that I’m fairly well versed in holistic approaches and mentions of yoga, reflexology, astrology, and crystals seemed at home to me. Your mileage may vary if you find these topics too “out there” for you.
But then again, you’re reading this review on a site written by The Raw Foods Witch, so you probably dig “mystical”.
I highly recommend Schizandra and the Gates of Mu for a totally different genre of New Age fiction that’s sure to keep you turning the pages.
Raw Food Fiction
Here are a few fun winks and nudges to existing raw foodists, or those who have been interested in the raw food movement.
- Schizandra’s nickname is Shazzie, and Shazzie is a well known beautiful raw food author from the United Kingdom.
- One character pops cacao beans like they were candy. Oh wait, they are candy, cacao beans are raw chocolate!
- There’s mention of a compost heap with nothing but fruits and veggies. Organic gardening, oh yeah.
- One of the characters talks about vegan meals, and there’s mention of vegan chili. Yum.
