Wow, Nathalie. You shared so much great information here. Loved it. It's like some of the health education I missed out on as a kid (because people weren't talking about this.)
Some things I'm going to take away and implement – more awareness of the food combining.
I'm going to test some stuff with my Green Monkey juice (Greens, banana, apple, orange). I think something in this creates a lot of gas for me and I'm not sure which item is doing it. You said bananas can be combined with other things…and greens too… so maybe it is the orange? I will experiment…
I loved what you said with these bits too:
- Garbage in does not equal garbage out. The garbage basically stays in.
- If I can't pronounce the ingredient or I don't know what it is, my body DEFINITELY won't know what to do with it.
- The thing about tigers having short digestive tracts b/c they need to get the meat out before it ferments. And how we have long ones so that's a problem for eating meat…wow. That is important to know. I don't eat meat, but I'm taking away the concept and how it's important to think about how long things are going to take to digest and be in my system so that I don't create a traffic jam. I want to make sure things are flowing along as easily as they can.
Really loved your video, Nath. I've been tweeting about while I watched too. You're doing great work in the world. Helping me for sure. And making a difference for others too. Thanks for being your awesome self and sharing. xoxo
Thank you so much for letting us know what your big ah-ah moments were! I think it's always great to see what others learned, I know I certainly didn't have this information as a kid either. Better late than never, right? :)
Yay so happy this was useful for you – I love sharing this type of information, and thank YOU for sharing it further. *big hugs*
Great video, Nathalie! I learned soooo much in that short amount of time. I definitely started to look at the ingredients list whenever I pick something up from the grocery store and it amazes me how almost everything I pick up has a whole bunch of ingredients I can barely pronounce in one try :
I also didn't think about food packaging before until you mentioned it (how the packaging is often in bright colours if the product is bland looking, and because it appeals to our eyes we end up more likely to pick it out). I will now keep in mind that these colours have been used as some marketing/branding tactic whenever I'm out shopping for food.
Thank you Bianca! :) I'm glad it was useful for you and gave you some food for thought, too! Yes – the brightly colored packaging is really crucial, I doubt kids would reach for a box of frosted flakes if it weren't all bright and cheery.
I really learned a lot from this video. I am very new to eating raw, I only started about a week ago. I have been having a lot of trouble with my stomach. Your information on food combining has been very eye opening. I'm not 100% raw, I'm just starting out with some raw every day. Now that I know what foods don't combine well, I can make choices that will be easier on my digestion. This information will be a real help to me. Thank you so much.
Hi Jessica! Thank you for writing and letting me know what was most useful for you. I think it's so important to have the right information, especially when you're first starting out. I know a lot of people experience lots of gas and bloating when they first go raw, especially if not used to eating a lot of fruits and veggies.
Have an awesome week! :)

That was brilliant! Sorry it took me so long to watch it, but girl, it was worth the wait.
I think the biggest thing I'm coming to right now is, avoid processed foods. If I don't know what's in it, how can I expect my body to know what to do with it?
Do restaurants usually use processed stuff when they make your food? How can you tell? I mean, obviously places like McDonald's will use processed crap galore, but what about places that make actual food for you, like Kerbey Lane or… um… some other non-Austin-specific sit-down-and-make-actual-food place?
Woo! So glad it was worth it. :) Yes processed foods – huge! A couple of things: most bottled, pre-made sauces etc tend to have lots of chemical-ly stuff in them. Most restaurants probably use them, and I know especially a lot of chains have turned into mini-factories, not even chopping any food in the kitchen but having it all done off-site and shipped in. Not sure about Kerbey Lane though..
The book “The End of Overeating” goes super in depth on some of these things, especially in restaurants too. Some of the worse places are like Applebee's and some of these sit down restaurants that appear to be healthy but really aren't… :/
Ooh, cool. I'll check out that book. Thank you! (:
Thanks for the Terrific lesson Nathalie ! I went raw in the 1st week of March 2010 and have a LOT to learn !
Hi James! So glad you found this useful. There's definitely a lot to learn and the best advice I can give is that we should all enjoy the journey. ;)
