Mindful Monday: Valentine’s Chinese New Year

Mindful Monday

Mindful Monday is a tradition where we take a few minutes to reflect on the week gone by and the one ahead.

Feel free to join in the fun by commenting!

This week I’m taking some time away from the computer. That’s right, I’m celebrating both Chinese New Year with my boyfriend Robin, and Valentines Day.

So this post is actually a scheduled post that I wrote on Friday. Enjoy and feel free to join in the fun by commenting!

What Are You Grateful For This Week?

  • Systems! I’m really working on streamlining my business systems and so far it’s working out quite nicely. I’m glad I’m building these things into place now and not waiting until things get too complicated to fix them.
  • Videos! I’m really grateful for having made and published the Raw Relationships video with my boyfriend Robin. I’ve been getting a lot of good feedback and it’s just awesome to hear that it’s helpful for people.
  • Dentists! Okay, maybe not grateful for going to the dentist but I’m grateful that it’s my last appointment until summer. Plus it was one of the shorter rendez-vous with a dentist I’ve had so that was something to be grateful about too!

What Are Your Intentions For the Coming Week?

  • Partnerships: Partnerships and working together with other people have really been on my mind lately. I know that all of the ideas and details will sort themselves out nicely this week and the next.
  • To Crank Out Some Good Stuff: As you know, I’m working on my next project and things are starting to shape up nicely. This week I’m really going to be pouring my creative and productive energy into getting this stuff in a presentable form and out of my head!
  • Figuring Tax Stuff Out: In general my tax situation is pretty simple, but I want to get some momentum on this so it doesn’t come back and bite me later.

Interviews

I’ve been interviewed over at EpicSelf and you’ll definitely want to hear what I have to say about raw food, paleo diets, and other topics there!

Over To You Now…

Leave a comment and let us know what you’re grateful for today, and what you intend for next week!

Mindful Monday: Live Event was a Success

Mindful Monday

Mindful Monday is a tradition where we take a few minutes to reflect on the week gone by and the one ahead.

Feel free to join in the fun by commenting!

What Are You Grateful for This Week?

  • My Raw Event Was a Success! On Saturday I had my first Toronto Spread Your Raw Food Wings event. It was awesome, everyone loved the food, and we got some great questions and discussions going. Thanks to everyone who attended, I am truly grateful for each of you!
  • Listening to new music: I tend to stick to my tried and true bands. My usual go-to songs are from Sarah McLachlan, Delerium, and The Cure. But these past few weeks I’ve been branching out to new songs by Tegan & Sara and of course the raw-foodist Jason Mraz. It’s been awesome!
  • Whole Foods Event: On Sunday I recovered from leading my own event by heading out to Whole Foods and listening to Yafa from House of Verona’s talk on raw food and aging. It was a great talk specifically about grey hair, wrinkles, and cellulite. All those fun fun topics!
  • Apple Fixing My Mouse: My mighty mouse hasn’t been scrolling for a few weeks now. I brought it to the Apple Store this past week and they fixed it, so I’m a happy geekgirl again!

What Are Your Intentions for The Coming Week?

  • Much Video To Edit: I have hours and hours of video to edit, both from my event on Saturday and also from earlier in the week. I know that it won’t edit itself, but I’m putting it out there that it will be quick and easy and turn out magickal.
  • Beethoven Concert: This week my boyfriend Robin and I are attending a classical music concert. It’s my intention to relax into it and really be in the moment. I tend to get edgy during classical music concerts, but I’m working on really enjoying being there immersed in the experience.
  • Chinese New Year! Next Sunday February 14th (Valentines day) is also Chinese New Year. That means spending time with Robin’s family celebrating the year of the tiger. Somehow the year of the tiger sounds very exciting, so I’m open to learning more about the symbolism behind it. Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Mindful Monday: Dreamboard Edition

Mindful Monday

Mindful Monday is a tradition where we take a few minutes to reflect on the week gone by and the one ahead.

Feel free to join in the fun by commenting!

What Are You Grateful for This Week?

  • Friendships in bloom: Yesterday I went to Jamie Riddler’s Full Moon Dreamboard circle and all of my Toronto twitter people were there! :) It was so awesome to see all these great ladies again and meet new ones too: Jennie, Tara, Lynn, Anita, and of course Jamie!
  • That space between: At the circle, we each got to pick a card and explain why we think we got that card. Mine was “wait” and on the back of the card it said: sometimes the best action is no action at all. This stopped me in my tracks, because I’m very much the go-getter action type. Yet I have been feeling like I’m between things, like I know where I want to go but it’s just not ready for me yet. Now with this “wait” card I think I can stop worrying about making this happen and just wait for them. They’re coming for sure, it’s just a matter of time now.
  • Puppies! My boyfriend Robin and I have been talking about getting a dog for awhile. Marie Forleo recently got a puppy (a mighty cute one at that) and it’s been stirring up my ambition for a dog. So I put lots of cute dog pictures on my dreamboard.
January 2010 Dreamboard
My dreamboard for the year ahead.

What Do You Intend For The Coming Week?

  • Overhauling: This week I intend to go through the site and my systems with a fine comb and improve the little things that add up to bigger things.
  • Wrap up January: There were a lot of little things that I didn’t quite wrap up for January since my friend was visiting. Now is the perfect time to clean up and organize a little.
  • Preparing and planning: For my live event happening this Saturday Feb 6th. For the most part it’s ready to go, but I still need to buy the food and get things polished up!

What Are You Delegating?

Jen from Inspired Home Office delegates to God or the Universe, whichever works. I love the concept!

  • Finding the remaining 2 right people for my Spread Your Raw Food Wings Event this Saturday February 6th, 2010 in Toronto, Canada.
  • Figuring out the details on an upcoming project I want to get involved in.
  • Migrating everything over to a new system as smoothly, easily, and quickly as possible.
  • Finding the time to do more creative play in the evenings.
  • Getting all the little bits and pieces ready for my class this Saturday so that everyone has a great time, learns a lot, and enjoys some delicious food!

Mindful Monday: Unplugged Edition

Mindful Monday

Mindful Monday is a tradition where we take a few minutes to reflect on the week gone by and the one ahead.

Feel free to join in the fun by commenting!

So here’s what I’m being mindful about this week…

What Are You Grateful For This Week?

  • Having an Unplugged Week-end: Or as Goddess Leonie would call it, having a switched off Sunday. I didn’t turn on my computer at all this week-end and it felt oh so good! Not checking my email took a lot of self-control, but it was also very liberating. And knowing that everyone who emailed me would be fine if I didn’t reply within a few hours was great too.
  • My live class more than half full: I’m really grateful at how quickly my live raw food class is filling up. We’ve only got 4 more spots left and I’m so excited to be meeting all the wonderful people who have signed up! Click here to see if one of these spots are for you.
  • Playing Card Games and Board Games: On the week-end I played card games and Settlers of Catan with my boyfriend and our friends. I even won a few times! In line with my Virgo-ness I try to “play to win” or at least play to not look like an idiot. But this week-end I really didn’t care if I won or not, and it was really fun. Not to mention that I learned some new Chinese words in the process.

What Are Your Intentions for the Coming Week?
  • Setting Time Aside for Writing: I’ve got lots of ideas, as usual, and sitting down to write them out is my next step. These may end up as articles for this blog, as guest posts, or articles for The Cue.
  • Reining in my thoughts and picking a name: I’m working on my Next Project and the name keeps escaping me. I tinker with the potential name for a day or two. Then a week goes by and I still haven’t settled it. This week I’m picking a name and making some stuff happen on that project!
  • Promoting my Bewitch Your Spouse eCourse: Getting along with a partner who isn’t raw is one of the questions I get asked the most. Usually people bring it up in private, as if there was something wrong with them for not being able to go raw with a reluctant spouse. Trust me when I say it’s a lot more common than you think! I’ve been there and I plan to share my experience and know-how with anyone who needs help with their spouse or partner.

What Do You Leave for the Universe to Figure Out?

Last week I read Jen’s post on Inspired Home Office about delegating to God or the Universe, whichever works for you. I love the concept and decided to give it a try this week on Mindful Monday!

  • Finding a Place for my Friend: A good friend of mine has recently relocated to Toronto and is looking for an apartment. She’s been staying at my place for the past week and sleeping on our inflated mattress. :) I’m letting the Universe find and secure her a great place to live!
  • Getting images for a Dreamboard: I’m attending Jamie Ridler’s dreamboard circle this Sunday and am letting the Universe bring me the images I need to create it.
  • Finishing the Month with Flying Colors: I’m letting the Universe align me with all the right people who need my work in the form of 1 on 1 coaching clients starting in February.

Your Turn!

Let me know what you’re grateful for, and your intentions are, and what you’re delegating to the Universe this week. Leave a comment below!

The Raw Foods Witch 2009 Year In Review

January

In January I was on a trip in China and Korea, with my boyfriend Robin. The idea for The Raw Foods Witch web site was still marinating in my mind. I was blogging as The Billionaire Woman.

February

Raw Food Switch

The Raw Food Switch web site was created. Note that the site was actually called Raw Food Switch and not Raw Foods Witch. That little witchy switch took place later on.

In February I shared the story of how I went from junk foodist to raw foodist, and how I stopped taking birth control pills.

March

How to Eat Raw Food in Winter

I filmed a video about Eating Raw Food in the Winter. I also shared some of my first few simple raw food recipes like my quick video on how to make beet juice.

April

In April I started a series on the benefits of eating raw food. Some of the articles were about using raw food for weight loss, and how more college students are turning to raw food to increase their performance.

May

Raw Food Recipes

In May my boyfriend Robin showed you how to make a Chinese inspired Raw Ragu recipe to trump all salads. I also shared my views about eating 100% raw vs. eating a high raw diet.

I maintain that it’s not necessary to eat 100% raw to enjoy the benefits of raw food.

June

Raw Food Benefits

In June I shared the 9 ways that raw food changed my life. Then I uploaded a video of my garden, and a video of my speech about the beautiful tropical fruit called durian.

Then I wrote a cheeky article that hypothesized that it is easier to become raw than to become vegan.

June was also the month that Raw Food Switch became the Raw Foods Witch. :)

July

In July I went back to basics and explained what is the raw food diet.

In one of my most popular articles to date, I shared the 13 Witchy Ways Green Smoothies Make You Feel Good in 13 Minutes or Less. Yum, yum.

I also weighed in on the debate over organic food, and shared in the advantages and disadvantages of organic food.

August

Raw Food Dehydrators

August saw the harvest from the garden and so I explained what a raw food dehydrator is. I also shared 21 Ways to Sneak More Vegetables Into Your Day, because we all know that eating more veggies is good for us but putting it into practice isn’t always so easy.

I also answered 2 of the most commonly asked questions: Is it better to blend or to juice? And whether a certain symptom is just detox or not, in my article on Raw Food Detox: The Myth, The Madness… The Magick?!.

September

Raw Foods Witch

In September I opened up more and shared the story behind why I started eating raw food and what has happened since then.

I posted my video on how to grow sprouts, with some written guidelines as well. Then I shared some of my insights on food cravings, why we have them, and what to do about them.

October

Raw Halloween Recipes

October was a busy month for The Raw Foods Witch. First, I wrote about the difference between healthy food and unhealthy food.

Then I released my shiny “28 Desserts You Can Eat Every Day” ebook. Grab yourself a copy if you haven’t already.

October was also the month I posted my Raw Pumpkin Pie recipe with a quick video to show you how to make it.

November

In November I undertook the master cleanse. I talked about a lot of detoxing techniques like the salt water flush, dry skin brushing, and how much water to drink per day.

I shared the results from my master cleanse. Then I posted happy photos and talked about eating out at restaurants while staying raw.

December

Raw Snowman Recipe

December was all about celebrating the season. I posted the raw food gift guide to help people shop for the raw foodies in their circle.

I explained the benefits of goji berries, and gave away my secret to buying them for a good price.

December seemed like a good time to answer another question I get asked a lot: what is a raw food coach?

And finally, I posted a super fun raw christmas recipethe raw snowman!

What’s in Store for 2010?

I hope you had a great 2009, and are looking forward to a fantastic 2010. I’m wishing you nothing but the best in health, joy, and prosperity.

Love,

Love, Nathalie

Raw Food Gratitude Circle #3: Moving Edition

moving-sale-travel-changes

Time Sensitive Announcement

This is just a quick reminder that today is the last day to score some cheap one-on-one raw coaching with me. If you’ve been on the fence about working with me to go raw or eliminate cravings, then this is your time!

I don’t see myself hosting another moving sale like this again (I’ve got a 1 year lease, naturally) so strike while the iron is hot. Or raw, or whatever.

Sale ends TONIGHT at 9pm EST.

Guest Post Goodies

Since I’m moving this week-end I wanted to leave you with lots of posts to read. Here are a number of the guest posts I’ve written in the last month or two.

  • Living Goddess, Living Food at Goddess Guidebook: Read about my journey, or what I call my raw food faerytale, on becoming a Goddess. Leonie really inspires me every day through her blog, so it was an honor to write my story for her and other beautiful Goddesses.
  • Jungle of Food Choices at Jungle of Life: In this post I discuss the parallel between the wild jungle and our own modern jungle of food choices. This post generated a great discussion and I encourage you to read through the comments. Lance is a great supporter and I’m so grateful to have presented my ideas with Jungle of Lifers.
  • Loving your Life Means Loving your Food at Lyved: This post is all about finding the love of food in a healthy sustainable way, even if that means eating “healthy food”. I really enjoyed writing about ways to make healthy foods fun and enjoyable, and mentioning my ever magickal green smoothies.
  • Save Money & Boost Energy at Work at Work Happy Now: When Karl asked me to write a guest post on the benefits of eating raw at work, it turned out to be a great exercise in making the most of your day by making sound food choices. I loved writing this post and I’m so grateful to Karl for letting me share some of my experiences with eating raw at work.
  • Late Summer Peach Cobbler Recipe at Eco-Chick: I consider myself to be an eco-chick and I love Starre’s blog motto: “Mother Earth is a Woman.” I knew people would enjoy a glimpse into the world of raw food, and since peaches are in season here in Canada this recipe came at the right time. Let me know how you like it!

Inspiring Reads

Here are a bunch of great recent articles from around the blogosphere. Enjoy these on your long week-end and let me know if any of these really resonated with you.

  • Raw Punks by Candy at Avocado Meet Zucchini: I love this post about the techniques for getting kids to eat raw. The photos are great candid glimpses into the life of young raw punks in training. Go Candy!
  • Paper Towel Alternatives by Carla at Green and Chic: I love the concept and I’m so glad Carla posted about these great paper towel alternatives. Disposables aren’t necessary, and this is such a cool product.
  • “Is it okay to eat ___?” by Gena at Choosing Raw: This is a question I get often too, and I’m really glad Gena decided to tackle it. She really digs down to the root of our questions about what is okay to eat.
  • Together, we are Unlimited by Kyeli at Freak Revolution: This is an awesome article that really relates to the Raw Foods Witch theme of being different… a witch in a mundane world. Now I just need to watch the Wicked musical.
  • Two Magick Words: Start Again by Kate at Crazy Sexy Life: If you’ve been feeling the blah’s lately then this article is here to give you permission to start again. I often find that when the student is ready, the teacher shows up.

How will you Enjoy your Long Week-end?

I’ll be moving to Toronto this week-end, how will you be spending it? Let us know in the comments, and I’ll see you all next week!

Raw Food Gratitude Circle #2

Stories, people, and blog posts I’m grateful for. Read and savour the gratitude with me!

kitty-under-the-tree

The other day I received an email from a gentleman named Don, from Florida who tells me he is eating about 60% raw.

Don is 68 years old and does not take any medication. He feels great and can work like when he was 45! He mentioned it is nice to grow old in a healthy manner, and that health is top priority.

Way to go Don, you’re an inspiration for me and for so many others now as well. Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Linda of Linda Eaves: I wanted to commend Linda for making a choice that’s having an ripple effect in her life in many ways. Linda had weight loss surgery on March 4th, 2009. Since then she has been meticulously providing her body with what it needs to heal. She’s also been eating more raw foods, and I just wanted to share my support for her publicly. You’re doing great Linda! Follow @LindaEaves on twitter.

Jonathan of Illuminated Mind: Jonathan and I have a lot in common, we’re both a little unconventional (Jonathan has been called a modern day James Dean), around the same age, and also into raw food. If you’re interested in making your dreams a reality you’ll want to check his blog out or follow him on twitter. @JonathanMead on twitter.

Lance of Jungle of Life: Lance has been a great supporter and friend since I started my first blog. He has the ability to write such touching posts over at his blog, and I really admire what he stands for. He’s also mentioned quite a few times that he’s eating more raw foods after reading Raw Foods Witch. Woo go Lance! @Lance02 on twitter.

Henri at @Henrijunttila on Twitter: Henri and I met through my other blog, and we’ve kept in touch via twitter. He’s been telling me he’d start a blog soon, and I’m still holding my breath. ;) I know that whatever he does will be incredible, because he has a deep appreciation for matters of health and personal development.

Chris from Art of Nonconformity: If you’re interested in world travel, then Chris is the go-to person. I’ve had a number of interesting conversations with Chris about airports and some of the countries we’ve both visited. I definitely recommend Chris’ blog for unconventional articles. It’s a bit of theme, in case you haven’t noticed. ;) @ChrisGuillebeau on twitter.

Raw Food Recipes From Around The Web

In addition to thanking people from around the blogosphere, I also wanted to highlight some great raw food posts I’ve seen lately.

Kristen’s Raw teaches us how to make sauerkraut via video. I’ve never made sauerkraut before, so I’m quite inspired. I might make mine with more of a kimchi flavor though. Yum!

Shernell Cooke shares her Luscious Cantaloupe Milk recipe over at Raw Experiences. With cantaloupes in season, this is bound to become a family favorite!

Gena from Choosing Raw shows us how to make a Raw B.L.T., yummy! I especially like how she uses a traditional squirt bottle, very creative.

Ingrid from Raw Epicurean shares a recipe for Carrot and Pistachio soup contributed by Omid. The photography alone is mouthwatering.

Sarma’s got a new blog! You might enjoy reading her article about how good tippers make better lovers.

Last but not least, I’m very grateful to you for reading this! Let me know in the comments what you’re grateful for today, and we can all bask in the gratitude of it all! :)

Saying Thank You: Raw Food Gratitude

I am grateful for beautiful flowers!

One of the things I learned early on in life is that an attitude of gratitude goes a long way. Sometimes it helps to say thank you to nothing in particular, and other times it helps to highlight the people that make your life better.

These are some of the delightful people I’ve been blessed to work and interact with, while bringing more raw food magick into their lives. They’re all outstanding, so check them out. :)

Emily of Hello!Self: Emily was inspired by the first free Raw Food teleclass I gave. It was so humbling to see Emily undertake a raw food trial shortly after the class too! Emily is a Life Coaching for Positive Living, you can follow Emily on twitter @HelloSelf.

Rohan of Rohan Mitchell: Rohan is a Software Engineer (not unlike myself!) living in Australia (unlike me) who shares his passion for personal development and freelancing. Rohan is into veganism, and my latest love Dance of Shiva. He mentioned giving green smoothies a try, so follow him on twitter @RohanM.

Kyeli of Freak Revolution: Kyeli is like my long lost faeriedust sprinkling sister, who also loves Buffy The Vampire Slayer. She is currently doing a rejuvenating self-care retreat while going raw, so send her lots of love and support, read her microfiction and comment, or follow her on twitter @Kyeli. You can do it Kyeli! :)

Sean of RebootSelf: Sean is an inspiration to anyone who wants to change. He has quit alcohol, smoking, and coffee. Now he’s retooling his eating plan and has started a raw food trial. Let him know what a fantastic job he’s doing and follow him on twitter @RebootSelf.

Andrea of Holistic Show: Andrea is the host of Holistic FM and she exudes a passion for helping parents make great choices. She’s a green smoothie mommy and we share a lot of common ideals. Follow her on twitter @HolisticMom.

Sigve of Sigve Alsvik: Sigve is a long time raw foodie from Norway who is a passionate multimedia musician. He’s got a great creative flair and is a wonderful person to connect with on twitter @SigveA.

Nathalie of One Peaceful World: We share the same name, and we happen to have a lot more in common than I originally thought. ;) Nathalie is a recovered lawyer into human rights, health, and living in a peaceful world. We need more lawyers like her, so follow her on twitter @NathalieMe.

Carla of Green & Chic: Carla and I met through personal development blogs, and as it turns out we both like things that are green and chic. I just wanted to commend Carla for her dedication to her health as an MS survivor, and for the incredible transformation that she’s undergone. Follow her on twitter @CarlaRose.

Now I’m passing the gratitude flowers onto you, who would you like to say thank you to? You can do so in the comments publicly, or just send an email to someone you appreciate!

Sending lots of raw magick juice your way!
Love, Nathalie
