Here they are. 7 of them.
- Diversity
Love: Going raw helped me discover so many new varieties of fruits and vegetables. I tried new tropical fruits from around the world (like durian), and delightfully local vegetables growing in my backyard.
Hate: I cut out tons of things that some might not even consider to be fit for human consumption. Most days I’m fine with that, but sometimes it sucks.
- Relationships
Love: I met tons of amazing new people through my foray into healthy eating-land. I still meet new amazing people, most notably: you.
Hate: Like I’ve written about in the past, going raw can rock the boat on any relationship. It’s not something to be overlooked.
- Evangelism
Love: When you find something that works for you, you want to shout it off the rooftops and make sure everyone knows about it. That’s how it is for me and eating more fruits and veggies.
Hate: Sometimes people make their own judgement about your experiences and your ideas. They think you’re promoting an eating disorder, or that you’re trying to push a scam diet onto them.
- What Defines You
Love: On the one hand it can be great to be “the healthy one” in the room, always able to lend a hand or recommend a solution to someone.
Hate: Eventually you realize that you’re a lot more multifaceted than you thought, and you would like to discuss topics other than raw food, weight loss, and the like.
- Ancestral Habits
Love: I love the idea of eating closer to nature, eating the way that my long-ago ancestors may have eaten. Grazing, picking berries.
Hate: Humans have been evolving for thousands of years, and there’s a reason that we’ve got cooked food and blenders. We don’t have all day to sit around and chew.
- The Word Diet
Love: Having boundaries and lines helps. We’re all a little too easily swayed by commercials and photos of happy mouths eating unhealthy food.
Hate: I’ve never dieted. I don’t like the word, and it’s not something I think really works for anyone really. So why use the word, with all the baggage that comes with it?
- My Calling
Love: I love that I am here to help people eat more raw food. Whether I can spare you the hate part of the love/hate relationship, I don’t know. But I’ll certainly try to make eating more fresh fruits and veggies a fun experience. Not an all or nothing, but a balanced, welcoming life style.
Hate: I can’t stand watching people I love hurt. It hurts me to see them, especially if I think I have the answer. (Do I have the answer? We can only know once we give things a try.) But I think that’s part of the job too, allowing people to come to their own realizations.
What do you love or hate about raw food?

We don’t have all day to sit around and chew.
This is hilarious!! I cracked up. (;
I love feeling healthy, but hated the detox process. I love eating such beautiful things, but hated having to answer a bazillion questions every time I mentioned my food choices.
I love meeting you! But hated some of the misleading information I found before I found you. (:
Funny, but true. ;)
Ooh the detox! That's a good one. Just got off the phone with a lady experiencing detox at the moment, never pretty. Yes… so much misleading and different info out there! ;_;
Thanks for sharing! :D
Oh Negative Number SEVEN!
I often need to remind myself -you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink…BUT you CAN at least show them where the water is ;) Personally, knowing you can help, but not having them really want it is the hardest part. It never gets any easier either, but when they're ready to hear it at least you are there :) I've found establishing a blog such a big help with this too, it's generated more interest amongst my loved ones, whereas before they never really understood what it was that I even do! LOL
Laughing at your comment “we don't have all day to sit around and chew!” it's such an important part, yet seen as such an incovenience! I have a joke amongst my clients when talking about digestion…”did you chew your food 27 times?” LOL
Ooh I love your horse/water analogy, one I need to keep in mind obviously. :) And I totally hear you on setting up a blog and leading by example.
27 is a good number. Especially for chewing. ;)
I completely agree about the word diet… I actually hate it, or at least the way a lot of people use it (I have to diet = deprive myself) as opposed to as “a way of eating”.
What I love about raw food is the energy and pretty much everything! But what I hate is how weak I am in tolerating cooked food when I eat it … I don't want to be 100% raw, so I do enjoy cooked food, but… for instance, yesterday, I ate an organic brownie, and then slept for 16 hours because I was so exhausted digesting it <___< !
Yeah I know! Diet used to mean “what you eat” and not so much “how I like to torture and deprive myself”. ;)
Ahhh I hear you on the lower tolerance to cooked food. You might consider taking digestive enzymes if you're going for something cooked that might take awhile to digest. Just an idea!
I like your love/hate post about raw food. In fact, many of your “hate” sides correspond to some reasons I'm not 100% raw. I've read on a comment on another post that you're from Quebec. I guess we're close because I'm in the Eastern Township too! Nice site by the way…
Yay! I'm glad we connected on the hate… okay that sounds bad, but you know what I mean. ;) I think it's getting to the right balance in this case, and not 100% raw is great for a lot of people. Ooh you're in the eastern townships too?! We'll need to meet in person when I'm back home visiting my parents then. :)
